Mona Collection - Lingerie & Womenswear

For the Fashion Promotion and Illustration module, I designed and made and/or digitally illustrated the garments of the Mona Collection, as a way to broaden and improve my visual presentation skills and my own design practice and to experience communicating a fashion design concept and collection. I also wanted to experiment with photography and video/film making as a way to communicate the collection and the Cookie West 'Woman'.

The 'Mona Collection for Cookie West' was inspired by the way that Henry Miller describes the strong, independent, sensual and passionate female character Mona, throughout the book 'Sexus'. A descriptive paragraph in the book was adapted to fit the model/actor (and muse for the collection) Lauren and her outfit: and used in the actor/model Tom's voiceover in the video. The collection is made up of co-ordinating pieces of lingerie, shapewear, dresses and nightwear, available in a choice of two different fabric combinations. One of the concepts of the collection was about having the opportunity to have under and outerwear options that co-ordinate and compliment each other. With the Balconette Bras in the collection they appear decorative, but actually give functional support through concealed straps and give a smooth, flattering line with moulded bra cups and deep sides.

For the 'Perfectly Fitted, Figure Enhancing' dresses, the aim is for the cut and style of the dress is to loosely emphasis the bust and bottom/hips and to gently contour in at the waist. With the dresses in the collection, they have been designed so that you can choose a body size (dress size) and a bust volume size (cup size), to create a perfectly fitting and figure enhancing dress.
